News from Italy April 2021
Dear Italy Lovers,
we would like to keep you informed about the Corona situation in Italy. What’s next and what will happen to the summer vacation?
According to the decree of April 7-30, all of Italy will remain in the red and orange zone. This means that restaurants, bars and museums will remain closed throughout April. There are no yellow and white regions. On April 20th it will be decided how things will continue in May.
Travel for tourist purposes between the regions is not permitted during this period. A pass (Autocertificazione) is required to travel between the regions.
Travelers who come from abroad must show a negative corona test and spend 5-14 days in home quarantine.
Tourist Travel
The vaccination campaign is proceeding at the same pace as in other European countries, i.e. around 50% of the population should be immunized in summer and travel within Europe should be possible without major restrictions or with a vaccination certificate. We assume that you have the situation as the year is run. In May it was possible to leave the region again and tourist trips from June.
City Trips
It was the best time to visit the beautiful cities that others are overcrowded: Venice, Milan, Verona, Florence, Rome. There will probably be no cruise ships flooding cities on a daily basis in 2021 either. There is also plenty of space for a relaxed city break. Ask us, we will put together a nice program for you from our travel modules after our watch.

Summer Vacation in Italy
As reported by the Italian media, the Italians have set up for a vacation in their own country. As a result, many of the holiday accommodations in Tuscany and Sardinia are already fully booked for the entire summer.
Open Air Music Festivals
Verona Opera Festival
At the press conference on March 11th, the Verona Opera Festival was confirmed for the summer of 2021. The spectator stands will be occupied by 25%, i.e. there will be space for approx. 3000 people in the Verona arena. Ticket sales are in full swing. It starts with Aida by Giuseppe Verdi in concert form on June 19 and 22, 202, conducted by Riccardo Muti.
Further open air festivals are on the program in Tuscany (Puccini Festival, Bocelli Festival) and in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast.
Note: The sales of the New Year’s Concert in Venice are already in full swing.

Hiking in Italy
The situation described also applies to outdoor activities in Italy. In June 2020 we visited the Cinque Terre. It was the best time ever, first because of the blooming spring and second because hardly any tourists populated the otherwise very busy five villages and the hiking trails.
Hiking is very popular again this year. We are often on the move and have described some of the most beautiful hikes for you and saved the routes via GPS. These are hikes in the Cinque Terre, in Piedmont (parts of the GTA), Lombardy, Lake Como. On request, we can provide you with an experienced hiking guide.
