Solitude Sometimes / Annonciation / Carmen
Solitude Sometimes
Philippe Kratz’s ballet is inspired by the story of the sun god Ra’s descent into the underworld, based on the ancient Egyptian literary work Amduat from the genre of afterlife books.
Kratz takes the dancers of the Teatro alla Scala on a journey through Egyptian mythology with symbolic elements such as catharsis, rebirth, the cycle of life and the resilience of the individual. Thom Yorke and Radiohead provide the background music with electronic music.
Annonciation
is a female duet that interprets the touching mystery of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary. The focus is on the relationship between body and mind, inner and outer, and Mary’s inner shock at the appearance of the angel.
Angelin Preljocaj succeeds in creating a special combination of music and choreography.
Ballet Carmen – A World Premiere
Spanish choreographer Patrick de Bana focuses on the passionate heroine Carmen in his first creation for the La Scala ballet company.
With his personal experiences, Carmen is celebrated as an icon as a symbol of freedom amidst the culture and scents of Spain.
