Nino Rota wrote the libretto together with his mother Ernesta Rinaldi. When Fadinard is about to hand over the new hat, he is surprised by a series of unforeseen events and gets into numerous confusing situations. Ultimately, everything is cleared up and the story ends on a happy and forgiving note, while Fadinard and Elena can finally celebrate their wedding.
