A story of love, sacrifice, and social exclusion: Experience Violetta Valéry's tragic fate in a visually stunning new production conducted by Andrea Battistoni.

Following the success of Hamlet, director Jacopo Spirei returns to the Regio alongside award-winning designers Gary McCann and Giada Masi to retrace one of opera’s greatest masterpieces. Based on Dumas’s The Lady of the Camellias, La traviata tells the story of the courtesan Violetta Valéry, caught between the “forever free” lifestyle of the Parisian demi-monde and a “serious love.” She chooses love at the cost of a sacrifice greater than she could have imagined.
Under the baton of Andrea Battistoni, soprano Ekaterina Bakanova portrays Violetta with profound emotional depth, joined by Galeano Salas as Alfredo and Vladimir Stoyanov as Giorgio Germont. A powerful meditation on societal hypocrisy and the isolation of those who suffer amidst universal rejoicing.
Plot of La traviata
Act 1: At a glamorous party in Paris, young Alfredo Germont confesses his love to the celebrated courtesan Violetta. Used to transient pleasures, Violetta is unexpectedly moved by his sincerity.
Act 2: The couple lives happily in the countryside until Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, intervenes. He demands Violetta leave Alfredo to protect his family’s reputation. Out of love, she agrees and returns to Paris, leaving a heartbroken Alfredo. At a masquerade ball, a jealous Alfredo publicly insults her.
Act 3: Violetta lies dying of tuberculosis in her apartment, alone and penniless. In her final moments, Alfredo and his father rush to her side to beg for forgiveness. Though reunited, it is too late: Violetta dies in her lover’s arms, redeemed and finally at peace.
