Carnevale di Venezia
The Venice Carnival, also known as Carnevale di Venezia , is one of the most famous and oldest carnival celebrations in the world. The Venice Carnival is characterized by its unique masks, magnificent costumes and the historical atmosphere of the city.
During Carnival, Venice turns into a magical and lively setting with numerous events, parades, concerts and balls. The participants wear elaborate costumes and mask their faces with the famous Venetian masks. The masks play a central role in the Venice Carnival as they offer the wearers anonymity and the opportunity to express themselves freely.
Carnival in Venice takes place every year and usually lasts about two weeks. However, the exact dates may vary from year to year. During Carnival there are various venues in Venice where activities take place, including St. Mark’s Square, Rialto Market and other historic squares.
Carnival highlights include the “Il volo dell’angelo” (Flight of the Angel) on the first Sunday of the carnival, when an artist slides down a rope from the bell tower in St. Mark’s Square, and the “Miglior concorso di costumi” (Best Costume Contest), in which the most magnificent and original costumes are awarded.
