A historic homecoming and an evening of transcendent beauty timed perfectly with the golden sunset: On Saturday, 29 August, the legendary Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra—the global gold standard for youth orchestral brilliance—performs at the Belvedere of Villa Rufolo. Under the baton of the internationally acclaimed Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan, a magical circle is completed. The performance opens with the solemn Prelude to Richard Wagner’s Parsifal, the very opera whose mythical “Klingsor’s Magic Garden” was inspired by Wagner’s visit to the gardens of Villa Rufolo in 1880. As the sun dips below the horizon, the evening culminates in the majestic, nature-inspired grandeur of Anton Bruckner’s monumental Symphony No. 4, the “Romantic.” Prepare for a deeply spiritual, unforgettable symphonic experience in the most historic setting in classical music.
