The opera “Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze” (The Straw Hat of Florence) is an opera by Nino Rota , a renowned Italian composer known for his film scores. For the film music “The Godfather” he was awarded the Golden Globe for the best film music.
Nino Rota wrote the libretto together with his mother Ernesta Rinaldi. The opera tells a light and enchanting comedy, which was first performed ten years after its completion at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo in 1955 and directed by Bruno Campanella and Pier Luigi Pizzi for the Teatro alla Scala in 1998.
In 2024 the project “Il cappello di paglia di Firenze” will be handed over to the students of the Scala Academy. It is a special honor for the young artists to take on one of the productions of the renowned theater programme. The opera returns in a new production by lively director Mario Acampa, who also curates the shows for children and young people in the “Big Shows for Little Ones” cycle.
On the podium is Donato Renzetti, an experienced conductor who serves as a guide for budding talent. His expertise and passion for music help make the performance of “Il cappello di paglia di Firenze” a special experience.
