Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) at the Teatro alla Scala in a production by Giorgio Strehler and the stage design by Luciano Damiani. Giorgio Strehler, a renowned Italian director, developed this production for the Salzburg Festival and later also performed it in Florence. His production is considered brilliant and groundbreaking in theater history. Strehler’s direction creates a balance of irony and tenderness, the production’s elegant silhouettes emphasize the interplay of arias and spoken dialogues, creating a poetic and enchanting atmosphere.
To breathe new life into this work, Thomas Guggeis, one of the most brilliant conductors of the new generation, will take the lead. Guggeis was previously Daniel Barenboim’s assistant in Berlin and will be General Music Director at the Frankfurt Opera from the 2023-2024 season. His expertise and fresh perspective promise a lively and dynamic interpretation of Mozart’s masterpiece.
