“Das Rheingold” (The Rhinegold), the first part of the monumental opera cycle “Der Ring des Nibelungen” by Richard Wagner, will be presented in a new production at the Milan Scala. The direction of this important work lies in the hands of the renowned conductor Christian Thielemann , who is regarded as the absolute reference for this repertoire and joins the great names in conducting history.
This production is directed by David McVicar , one of the most influential directors of international stage productions. McVicar has already enjoyed great success at La Scala with various works by composers such as Cavalli, Berlioz, Cilea and Verdi.
Baritone Michael Volle, who will embody the role of Wotan throughout the cycle, stands out in the top-class cast. Known for his outstanding acting and vocal performance, Volle will no doubt offer an impressive rendition of the mighty father of the gods.
The Ring des Nibelungen tetralogy will continue at La Scala in the coming seasons, with Die Walküre and Siegfried scheduled for 2025 and Götterdämmerung in 2026. There will also be an opportunity to experience the entire cycle in two complete runs.
This new production of “Rheingold” at La Scala in Milan promises a spectacular experience for viewers who can look forward to a masterful interpretation of Wagner’s epic opera. The collaboration of Christian Thielemann, David McVicar and the outstanding ensemble will surely contribute to an unforgettable performance and will revive the magic and fascination of the Ring of the Nibelung.
