Leonardo da Vinci was already enthusiastic about the river Adda. He spent a lot of time studying the river that once separated the Duchy of Milan from the Republic of Venice. Bergamo was part of the Republic of Venice at the time. The Adda rises in the Alps and crosses Lake Como near Lecco before flowing through Lombardy into the river Po. The Adda plays a role in world literature, e.g. in Alessandro Manzoni’s novel “The Betrothed”.

This newly developed tour takes you to the hidden treasures of Italy by bicycle or a longer walk. It is easy to keep distance and stay safe. The tour by bicycle lasts about 3 hours. It is accompanied by a professional guide in your language. Around 12 km are covered. The path is wide and the route is flat. This is a tour for the whole family and friends.
The river Adda flows between Milan and Bergamo. Beautiful villas and historic still functioning hydropower plants from the early nineteen hundreds line the way. A beautiful walking and cycling path leads along the river or canal bank.
The path starts in Milan and accompanies the Naviglio della Martesana through the small towns along the canal. The Naviglio della Martesana is derived from the Adda to irrigate the fertile plain of the Padana. This was already a big topic in the time of Leonardo da Vinci. Great history and many stories are entwined around the river. You will discover unknown paths and get to know the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village of Crespi d’Adda is a real insider tip. It was the first village in Italy with electric light.
