Bologna’s old town is a neat pedestrian area without traffic.

The guided tour takes you through the historical center of Bologna with its arcades and towers from the Middle Ages. You will visit Piazza Maggiore, the heart of Bologna, with its imposing palaces: Palazzo Re Enzo, Palazzo dei Notai, Palazzo del Podestà, and Palazzo dei Banchi. Admire the Neptune Fountain, a late renaissance masterpiece by Giambologna.

In the beautiful Basilica of San Petronio, you can appreciate the Bolognini Chapel and the remarkable meridian of Cassini. Through a hole in the church roof, the noon sunbeam reaches the church and shows the month, day, zodiac sign, and the time from and to the equinox. Even today, the meridian in the San Petronio Church, planted in the church floor in 1655, is the longest in the world.

Stroll the elegant boulevards of Bologna and reach the Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio. It is the palace of the famous University of Bologna. Bologna University is the oldest university in the western world. The official year of foundation was set to the year 1088. You will visit the coat of arms and the famous anatomy theater. It is a characteristic historical amphitheater for anatomy lessons.

Around the lanes of the farmer’s market, you find picturesque shops and fruit and vegetable stalls. Continue to Piazza Santo Stefano with the monastery of the same name.

The tour concludes with a visit to the medieval towers of Asinelli and Garisenda, the landmark of the city.
