The Story of Turandot
“Turandot” unfolds in ancient China, where the ruthless Princess Turandot challenges suitors to answer three riddles to win her hand. Failure means death. Calaf, a mysterious prince, captivated by Turandot, takes up the challenge. Despite her icy demeanor, Calaf’s love transforms Turandot. As he solves the riddles, Turandot resists, yet love triumphs. Calaf offers Turandot a riddle: if she discovers his name by dawn, he’ll accept death; if not, they marry. The opera climaxes with Turandot’s emotional journey, symbolizing the transformative power of love and the triumph of compassion over cruelty. Puccini’s powerful score heightens the drama, making “Turandot” an operatic masterpiece of love, sacrifice, and redemption.
