The Teatro Regio in Turin is a historic jewel with roots tracing back to the early 18th century. Commissioned by Vittorio Amedeo II and designed by renowned architects Filippo Juvarra and later Benedetto Alfieri, the theatre opened its doors on December 26, 1740, with Francesco Feo’s Arsace. Its opulent interiors and seating capacity of 2,500 immediately made it a cultural landmark, attracting the era’s leading composers like Gluck and Paisiello, as well as legendary performers.

During Napoleon’s reign, the theatre underwent name changes, becoming the Grand Théâtre des Arts and later Théâtre Impérial. It flourished under Carlo Felice’s patronage in the 19th century, showcasing works by Rossini and Wagner. Tragically, the theatre was destroyed by fire in 1936 but was rebuilt by Carlo Mollino in 1973. It reopened with Verdi’s I Vespri Siciliani, marking a triumphant return to its cultural significance.
