On May 15, 2025, the 87th Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino presents a captivating concert featuring two masterpieces of Russian music, conducted by the brilliant Timur Zangiev. The evening begins with Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16, one of the most demanding and expressive piano concertos ever written. The virtuosic Alexander Gadjiev will bring his exceptional artistry to this technically formidable and emotionally intense work. The second half of the program is dedicated to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, also known as the Pathétique. This deeply personal and emotionally charged symphony, filled with soaring melodies and profound melancholy, was Tchaikovsky’s final work and remains one of the most beloved compositions in the symphonic repertoire. This extraordinary evening promises to be a celebration of passion, virtuosity, and orchestral brilliance.
