WOZZECK | Teatro del Maggio, Florence
Teatro del Maggio Piazza Vittorio Gui, 1, Firenze, FI, ItalyAlban Berg’s Wozzeck at Teatro del Maggio (Sept 27–Oct 3): expressionist masterpiece of love, despair, and human tragedy.

On June 5, 2025, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival presents an extraordinary symphonic concert conducted by the acclaimed Thomas Guggeis. The program features two masterpieces from different musical eras: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, known as Jupiter, and Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major, Op. 100.
Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, his final and grandest symphony, is a brilliant showcase of classical form and expressive depth. Its majestic character and intricate counterpoint, especially in the triumphant finale, make it a pinnacle of the symphonic repertoire. In contrast, Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, composed in 1944, is a powerful work filled with lyrical beauty and dramatic intensity, reflecting both the hardships and hopes of its time.
Thomas Guggeis , one of the most exciting conductors of his generation, brings his dynamic artistry to these contrasting yet equally profound works, promising an evening of musical brilliance.
