Experience the timeless romance and tragic beauty of Romeo e Giulietta, Sergej Prokof’ev’s masterful ballet, as it graces the historic stage of Teatro La Fenice in Venice in January 2025.

This production of Romeo e Giulietta will be brought to life by the internationally acclaimed Hamburg Ballet, under the inspired choreography of John Neumeier, whose innovative and emotionally charged interpretations of classical works have captivated audiences worldwide.

This iconic ballet, based on Shakespeare’s immortal tale of star-crossed lovers, captures the passion, conflict, and heart-wrenching drama of young love set against the backdrop of feuding families.
Each movement of the ballet, from the tender “Balcony Scene” to the ominous “Dance of the Knights,” immerses the audience in the emotional highs and lows of this tragic love story.

Venice, the city built on water. Blessed with a historic opera house, the Teatro La Fenice, the most famous and renowned landmark in the history of Italian theatre. It was lost to fire 3 times, and always rebuilt. Hence the name La Fenice, the Phoenix, the bird rising from the ashes.
The Teatro La Fenice, one of Venice’s most prestigious cultural landmarks, provides the perfect setting for this captivating production. Located in the heart of the city, La Fenice is renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture, having hosted some of the most memorable performances in the world of opera and ballet since its opening in 1792. The name “La Fenice,” meaning “The Phoenix,” symbolizes the theater’s resilience, having risen from the ashes after multiple fires, most recently in 1996. Today, La Fenice continues to be a beacon of artistic excellence, drawing visitors from around the globe to experience its world-class performances.

Conducted by Markus Lehtinen, the La Fenice Orchestra will skillfully render Prokof’ev’s dynamic score, ensuring a performance that is both musically and visually stunning. The combination of John Neumeier’s

contemporary choreography, Prokof’ev’s evocative music, and the enchanting atmosphere of La Fenice promises an unforgettable evening of ballet.

Prokof’ev’s powerful score, hailed as one of the greatest ballet compositions of the 20th century, breathes life into the characters of Romeo and Juliet, as well as the bustling streets of Verona, with its sweeping melodies and rhythmic intensity.
