“La rondine” is an opera by Giacomo Puccini performed at La Scala in Milan. The performance will be conducted by Riccardo Chailly, who explores the composer’s lesser-known title as part of the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death. “La rondine” is a lengthy and difficult to implement opera, which was Puccini’s answer to a request for an operetta from the Carltheater in Vienna in 1914. Due to later considerations and global political events, in particular the outbreak of the First World War, the project changed, which finally premiered in Monte Carlo in 1917. The performance of “La rondine” at La Scala in Milan offers a rare opportunity to experience this lesser-known work by Puccini.
“La Rondine” deals with themes such as the search for true love, the meaning of freedom and the conflicts between societal expectations and individual desires. The opera is known for its emotional intensity and the musical beauty of Puccini’s compositions, which range from impassioned arias to rousing ensembles. Although “La Rondine” is not one of Puccini’s best-known works, it is appreciated for its refined music and sensitive portrayal of human emotions. The opera ends with a melancholy look at the unfulfilled dreams and longings of its characters.
