A very nice circular hike with spectacular views from the crest of the Costa Corniolo. The rather unknown path runs mostly on a contour line and is also accessible for less experienced hikers. The hike can also be organized for groups. From Costa Corniolo you can see the towns of Riomaggiore and Manarola, as well as the pilgrimage churches of Volastra and Madonna di Montenero.
Volastra is picturesquely situated on a plateau above the cliffs. The hiking trail no. 586 connects Corniglia with Manarola and passes through Volastra. A nice place to rest in the restaurant or on a shady bench in front of the Madonna della Salute pilgrimage church of Volastra. However, the most spectacular point of the hike is the ridge on the Corniolo rock. This upstream cape offers a wonderful panoramic view from above of the steep coast with vines and the villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola below, which are connected by a dizzying bridge.
Volastra can be reached on foot from Corniglia via the beautiful hiking trail no. 586 through the vineyards. The bus from Manarola to Volastra is easier, but unspectacular.
From Volastra, path no. 530 leads towards Telegrafo. It is also known as the pilgrimage street because it connects the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Salute di Volastra with the Santuario della Madonna di Montenero.
We walk on this wide path without differences in height for about 50 minutes to the junction of path 532. Path 532 turns right and leads to a beautiful viewpoint on the crest of the Costa Corniolo. This mountain peak lies above Riomaggiore and Manarola and you can enjoy the view over both places, the sea and the two pilgrimage churches of Santuario della Madonna di Montenero and Madonna della Salute in Volastra.
From Costa Corniolo you can descend to Riomaggiore or Manarolo. These are both steep stairs.
We take the path 502 to Groppo. The first part runs on dry stone walls through the vineyards. You cross Groppo, then uphill to Volastra.
As an alternative, for groups we offer a tour of a wine cellar with wine and olive oil tasting in Groppo. The group can then walk back to Volastra or you have your own bus that picks up your group in Groppo.

Volastra, the village in the middle of olives. Volastra loves 340m high on the trail between Corniglia and Manarola. In addition to the typical Cinque Terre vines, many small olive groves can be found around Volastra. The tallest building in Volastra is the pilgrimage church with the shady benches in front. In Volastra there is a restaurant with a bar and a small shop for everyday goods.
Groppo is just below Volastra on a hairpin on the Manarola Strait. In Groppo is the Cantina Sociale, where you can buy wine and the typical products of the region. Also in Groppo there is an old old oil mill, Antico Frantoio, which is to be expanded as a small museum.
