From October 2 to 25, 2026, this performance transports you to a distant land, which is central to the festival theme “Mondi Lontani” (Distant Worlds).

The Teatro Giuseppe Verdi di Busseto is a place deeply rooted in the composer himself. It is a small, intimate jewel that Verdi himself acknowledged with some skepticism. Today, however, it offers a unique chance to experience great operas in a setting that immediately and intensely brings emotions and voices to the forefront. The very monumentality of Aida becomes even more striking and personal through the concentration on the drama within this framework.

As one of the most iconic works in opera history and a perfect fit for the “Mondi Lontani” theme, Aida takes the audience to Ancient Egypt, a location of fascination and exoticism that premiered at the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo in 1871. The opera narrates the tragic story of the Ethiopian princess Aida, living in Egyptian captivity, torn between her love for the Egyptian general Radamès and her loyalty to her homeland. The conflict is further intensified by the dangerous rivalry with the Egyptian princess Amneris. This production seizes the unique opportunity to bring the immense drama of Aida into the intimate setting of the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Busseto – Verdi’s hometown. It utilizes a historic staging by Franco Zeffirelli , created for the Verdi Centenary in 2001, whose opulent aesthetic and deep musical understanding are lovingly revived by Stefano Trespidi and Lorena Marin. Under the musical direction of Giuseppe Mengoli, the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini unfolds the multifaceted score, while the Coro del Teatro Regio di Parma brings the crowd scenes to life. A must-see for any Verdi enthusiast, celebrating the universal themes of love, duty, and sacrifice in a spectacular yet focused performance.
