La Gioconda with Anna Netrebko as Gioconda and Jonas Kaufmann as Enzo (on April 10, 13, 16) will be one of the highlights of the San Carlo theater season.
The opera La Gioconda was composed by Amilcare Ponchielli in four acts. The libretto is by Arrigo Boito and was written based on the play Angelo, tyran de Padoue (Tyrant of Padua) by Victor Hugo.

La Gioconda is part of the standard opera repertoire in Italy. Because of the large staff and the elaborate stage equipment, staging the opera is quite expensive and is therefore performed less frequently.
