The drama begins when Simon Boccanegra, who comes from a humble background, loves the patrician Jacopo Fiesco’s daughter Maria and has a child with her. Fiesco refuses to marry them and keeps Maria away from her lover. Maria dies and Simon Boccanegra becomes Doge. Simon Boccanegra has to assert himself in political battles against rival factions. He finds himself at the center of intrigue and power plays as he tries to protect the well-being of the city and the well-being of the people. During the course of the opera, Boccanegra discovers his lost daughter Amelia, who is loved by a nobleman named Gabriele Adorno. The story revolves around the difficulties their love must overcome as secrets, political intrigue and personal enmities threaten their happiness.
