Experience Giuseppe Verdi’s immortal masterpiece, “La Traviata,” in one of the world’s most acclaimed productions at the legendary Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Amidst the magical hustle and bustle of Carnival, from February 8th to 17th, the tragic love story of the courtesan Violetta unfolds.
This timeless production by star director Robert Carsen, originally created for the theater’s reopening, captivates with a clean, modern aesthetic that focuses on the relentless conflict between societal pressure and personal happiness. Under the passionate musical direction of Stefano Ranzani, the Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro La Fenice bring Verdi’s emotional score to life. Internationally renowned soprano Rosa Feola embodies Violetta with breathtaking vocal brilliance and poignant dramatic power. At her side, tenor Stefan Pop shines as her ill-fated lover Alfredo, while baritone Roberto Frontali creates a character of impressive depth as his stern father, Germont.
This performance is more than just an opera; it is a symbiosis of brilliant music, profound theatre, and the unique atmosphere of Venice, the very city where “La Traviata” premiered in 1853. An unforgettable event that touches the heart and enchants the senses.

Story and Background of La Traviata
Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” (The Fallen Woman) , which premiered in Venice in 1853, is based on the novel “La Dame aux Camélias” by Alexandre Dumas fils. The opera was scandalous at its premiere, as it was the first to portray the life of a courtesan, a woman on the fringes of society, as a tragic heroine on the main stage. The plot tells the story of Violetta Valéry, a famous Parisian courtesan suffering from tuberculosis. At one of her parties, she meets the young Alfredo Germont and falls in love with him. She gives up her luxurious life to live with him in a rural idyll. However, their happiness is shattered when Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, appears. He demands that Violetta end the relationship, as her “scandalous” lifestyle jeopardizes his family’s reputation and his daughter’s future. Heartbroken, Violetta sacrifices her one true love and returns to Paris, leading to a painful public confrontation with the unsuspecting Alfredo. When he finally learns the truth about her sacrifice, he rushes to her side. But it is too late: he can only bid her farewell as she dies in his arms. The opera is a profoundly moving study of sacrifice, social hypocrisy, and a love that defies all odds.
