As the characters navigate their comic misunderstandings and pursue their desires, the poet attempts to influence the outcome. Rossini composed the opera at the age of 22, drawing inspiration from the vibrant cultural exchanges between Italy and the Ottoman Empire. Though “Il turco in Italia” did not initially achieve the same level of fame as some of Rossini’s other works, it has since been appreciated for its innovative music and humorous librettos.
