The Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro presents a new production of Rossini’s dramatic tragédie lyrique, “Le Siège de Corinthe”, for its XLVII Edition. This significant opera, revised for Paris in 1826 and based on his earlier Maometto II, depicts the desperate struggle of the Greeks against the Ottoman invasion in 1459.
From August 11 to 21, 2026, the Scavolini Auditorium will be the setting for this epic confrontation. Under the musical direction of the renowned Maestro Carlo Rizzi and the staging of the visionary Davide Livermore, visitors can look forward to a high-calibre interpretation of this masterpiece. Experience the gripping tale of honour, duty, and forbidden love amidst war, as Pesaro once again celebrates Rossini’s genius. An absolute highlight of the festival programme!
The Package

The Story of Le siège de Corinthe
The opera is set during the 1459 siege of the Greek city of Corinth by Sultan Mahomet II. Corinthian Governor Cléomène and the warrior Néoclès lead the exhausted defenders. Cléomène’s daughter Pamyra is torn between duty and her past: she is in love with Mahomet, whom she knew in Athens as Almanzor. When Mahomet offers marriage to spare the Greeks, Pamyra refuses, joining her people and pledging her loyalty to Néoclès. In the dramatic finale, the last Greek defenders march into battle after Pamyra and the women pray for liberation through death, while Pamyra kills herself before Mahomet can claim her, as Corinth is consumed by fire.
