The Cinque Terre hike leads from Vernazza past the cemetery to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Reggio and on to the Sanctuary of Soviore. The hiking trail goes through the forest to Cape Punta Mesco with the chapel of Sant’Antonio and then descends to Monterosso al Mare, the northernmost town of the Cinque Terre. A nice hike with views on easy trails.
The hike from Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare mainly follows wide and easy-to-walk paths. There are still a total of about 950 meters of altitude to be overcome over a distance of 15 km. For this you will be rewarded with beautiful views and a fragrant nature. And perhaps to end with an aperitivo or a swim in the sea on the beautiful beach of Monterosso al Mare.
The path starts at the barrier at the Sicilian’s bar. At this last parking lot, the bus leaves for the parking lots and to San Bernardino. A path leads steeply past the houses over the town center. Another possibility of ascent is near the harbor, where steps lead out into the alleyways and also directly onto hiking trail 508 to the Santuario Madonna di Reggio.
The path winds in serpentines past the cemetery and offers breathtaking views of the sun shining Vernazza, surrounded by a Mediterranean bloom. Small memorial chapels accompany the pilgrim on his way to Madonna di Reggio. The Signora di Reggio church is only open for Sunday services in the afternoon. It houses a picture of the black Madonna and Child. On the northern long side of the church, the path continues upwards and soon crosses the street. From here we follow the signs 582 to Il Terminus to the Santuario Soviore. The trail leaves the road at a serpentine to wind its way along the slope on a narrow path through the maquis. The entire path runs high above the sea and the impressive view over the cliffs is a constant companion. The path ends on the road, keep left and after 20 minutes you will reach the Santuario Madonna di Soviore. Here you can always find an open bar for the little hunger and the Ristorante offers lunch. There are benches on the terrace in front of the monastery. From here you can let your gaze wander over Monterosso and the coast.
Follow the road a little further to Colle di Gritta, where hiking trail 591 to Punta di Mesco begins in the forest. Through the forest you reach the intersection Punta Mesco. The beautiful panorama of Monterosso al Mare and the cliffs can be seen on the Cape. The path divides at Punta di Mesco and it is possible to continue to Levanto. However, we descend on path 590 to Monterosso (approx. 30 min). The descent first runs along the Monterosso Bay and then quickly along a path washed out by the rain. The trail ends in the Fegina district of Monterosso. Here is the long bathing beach and the train station. You can return to Vernazza by train or boat.

Vernazza is the site of the Cinque Terre that best preserved the classy and elegant look and characteristics. In October 2011, Vernazza was hit by a severe flood that completely destroyed the heart of the pretty place and the port. Today Vernazza shines in its original beauty.
Already in the Middle Ages there was a lonely church on the Cape of Mesco, where hermits lived away from places in a monastery. The church of Sant’Antonio del Mesco is 311 meters above sea level with a fantastic view over the five villages of the Cinque Terre to the island of Palmaria near Portovenere.
Monterosso al Mare consists of two districts. The center lies on a natural small gulf. The district of Fegina can be reached through a tunnel with a beautiful wide sandy beach and beach boulevard as well as the Monterosso al Mare train station.
