Die Walküre is one of the four operas from Richard Wagner‘s complete works Der Ring des Nibelungen. Der Ring des Nibelungen is a “stage festival for three days and one eve”, with Die Walküre being the first day. The Rheingold is the eve of the opera tetralogy and takes place in mythical antiquity. Gods and mermaids, giants and dwarves depict the conflicts in the struggle for power and love.
The premiere of Richard Wanger’s opera Die Walküre took place in Munich in 1870. Experience Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund.

The Nibelung Alberich forged a ring from the gold of the Rhine, which signifies dominion over the world. The god Wotan wants to rule with wisdom, but succumbs to the desire for power and violence. He steals the Rheingold ring from Alberich in order to pay the giants to build his castle of the gods, Valhalla.
Wotan fathers twins Siegmund and Sieglinde with a human woman, but they are separated by a curse.
Die Walküre, the first day, takes place in the human world with the protagonists Sieglinde, Hunding and Siegmund. Sieglinde is Hunding’s wife and Siegmund appears wounded in her house, where he is being cared for by Sieglinde. The two feel a deep connection to each other.
Wotan fathered more Wälse, which earned him the punishment of his wife Fricka. The Valkyrie Brünnhilde is Wotan’s favorite daughter.
Siegmund and Sieglinde, pregnant through incest, flee. Brünnhilde announces Sieglinde’s death and wants to hand her over to Valhalla’s delights, which Siegmund prevents through his love. The Valkyrie Brünnhilde is deeply moved by this and defies Wotan’s orders. As punishment, Brünnhilde has to sleep in the circle of fire and can only be saved by a free fearless hero. Sieglinde gave birth to this hero as her son Siegfried.
The music «Valkyrie Ride» and «Fire Magic» are the most famous pieces from Valkyrie.
