The popular opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples from July 14th to 30th, 2024. “La Traviata” is an enchanting opera that tells the poignant story of love, sacrifice and redemption. The Italian-sung opera La Traviata is one of the most famous operas ever.
La Traviata premiered on March 6, 1853 at the Teatro La Fenice and there was disaster. Verdi dared to focus on the suffering of a person ostracized by society. This was an affront to the noble society, which was confronted with accusations of immorality. Verdi himself saw himself and his relationship with his partner, the singer Giuseppina Strepponi, from this perspective. Giuseppina Strepponi had several illegitimate children with Giuseppe Verdi and was therefore considered a “La Traviata” in society.
