CARMEN
The opera Carmen was composed by Georges Bizet in four acts. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. The story is based on the novella Carmen by Prosper Mérimée
Carmen premiered in Paris in 1875 without much success. Georges Bizet did not experience the international breakthrough since he died in 1875, a few months after the premiere at the age of 36.
Today Carmen is one of the most popular and most frequently performed operas in the world.At the 101st Arena di Verona Festival 2024, the latest production of Carmen will also be performed.
