Opera AIDA 1913

The opera Aida was composed by Giuseppe Verdi in four acts. The libretto was written by Antonio Ghislanzoni. Aida premiered on December 24, 1871 at the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo.
The opera Aida is set in Egypt in the period of the pharaohs. Aida is the king’s daughter of Ethiopia. She is kidnapped to Egypt. The Egyptian general Radames falls in love with Aida. However, since he is supposed to marry the daughter of Pharaoh Amneris, he despairs between love and pain and the drama takes its course. The Arena di Verona is a historic amphitheater that provides a grand and dramatic backdrop for opera performances.

On the 101st Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2024, Aida will be performed in two different productions: In the first ten performances, Stefano Poda’s “Crystal” production from the 100th Festival returns, with transparencies, unprecedented lighting effects and rich symbolism that flows between the ancient Egypt and contemporary art. Exactly 111 years after the first Aida in the Arena, which took place on August 10, 1913, the classic new production from 1913 by the late maestro Gianfranco de Bosio returns to the arena.
