As a first attraction we visit the excavations of the former city of Pompeii at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Ancient life came to an abrupt halt in 79 A.D. due to the volcanic eruption. For centuries Pompeii was sealed under a thick layer of ash. New discoveries are constantly being made that make us understand the life of the once rich city.
You will stroll through the cobbled streets with sidewalks, as they originate from antiquity and admire the water system for feeding the numerous fountains and the well-preserved houses with fresco paintings and mosaic floors. This gives you an impressive picture of the lives of the people of the Roman Empire.
Over lunch, you will learn the intense taste of the fruits and vegetables, which thrive splendidly on the volcanic soil. During lunch you can also enjoy the local wine grown on Mount Vesuvius.
After lunch we drive to an altitude of about 1000 m through the lush nature of the park to the crater of Mount Vesuvius. From the parking lot to the summit of the crater we need to climb about 300 meters of altitude on uneven terrain. In the area of the crater, volcano guides are required for safety reasons. Your guide will tell you the story of the eruptions of Mount Vesuvius on the hike and translate the explanations of the local volcano guide about the rock layers and fumaroles.
An unforgettable experience is the view from the 1300m high Vesuvius into the distance and into the mouth of the crater. They overlook Herculaneum, Pompeii and the densely built Gulf of Naples and get a glimpse of the fragility of our nature up close.

The indicated price is for your orientation. It was calculated for 20 participants. The calculation includes a private bus ride from Naples and a foreign language guide for the whole day. It will be confirmed with your request for a proposal.
The tour is organized for your group only. It is carried out with a locally licensed tourist guide in the requested foreign language (English, German, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, other). Choose from English, German, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Japanese. All participants will receive headphones.

Notes
Mount Vesuvius is a dormant volcano that is well guarded. Still, there is a risk. It may happen that the park is closed at short notice and the tour is canceled. We have to live with that risk. For the tour and ascent to the volcano you need comfortable shoes and some stamina. The tour is not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Special arrangements can be made for small groups.
