Norma is a tragic opera in two acts by the Italian opera composer Vincenzo Bellini . The libretto is by Felice Romani and is based on a play by Alexandre Soumet. Norma’s cavatina “Casta diva” in the first act is particularly famous. The role of Norma is considered one of the most difficult and demanding roles for a high female voice. Anna Pirozzi will shine in the role of Norma and Freddie De Tommaso as Pollione. The premiere of NORMA took place in 1831 at La Scala in Milan.
