Opera in 2 acts with the music of Richard Strauss and the lyrics of Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The world premiere was in 1928 at the Semperoper in Dresden. In 2019, La Scala will present this opera to the Milanese audience for the first time. So far, it remains the only play in which a shell plays a leading role.
Franz Welser-Möst conducts the choir and orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala.
