MEZZOGIORNO IN MUSICA (Midday Music)

The Voices of the Future and Verdi’s Lyrical Legacy
Verdi Festival – Palazzo Ducale di Parma
2026-10-04 ... 2026-10-25

Experience the stars of tomorrow in one of Parma’s most beautiful historic palaces: the concert series “MEZZOGIORNO IN MUSICA” (Midday Music) is an intimate yet festive addition to the XXVI Festival Verdi 2026. On four consecutive Sundays in October, the magnificent Palazzo Ducale di Parma is transformed into an evocative concert hall. This format serves as a launching pad for the young artists of the Accademia Verdiana and offers a deep, personal insight into Verdi’s mastery.

Music trip to Parma with an opera of Giuseppe Verdi at the Teatro Regio in Parma or the Teatro Verdi in Busseto. The Festival Verdi takes place every year in September and October, on the occasion of the Maestro’s birthday. The operas and concerts of Giuseppe Verdi will be performed at the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Teatro Farnese and the Teatro Verdi in Busseto. Parma and Busseto were the hometowns of the Maestro and you can visit Verdi’s birthplace in Roncole (Busseto) and his villa in Sant’Agata.

Enjoy our music package with a magnificent performance of the most famous Italian opera composer.
Choose one or more operas from the program and we will send you a tailor-made offer.

“MEZZOGIORNO IN MUSICA” is a central event within the Verdi Off program and a tribute to the Maestro’s timeless music. The focus is on young artists, who are graduates of the Accademia Verdiana. The concerts feature a compilation of Verdi arias and duets, performed in the intimate setting of piano accompaniment. This reduction to the essence of voice and music allows the audience to rediscover the lyrical depth and psychological nuance of Verdi’s characters.

Although the exact repertoire for October 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2026, is not yet known, the audience can expect a musical journey through Verdi’s entire career – from early works like Nabucco to later masterpieces like Otello or La Traviata. Each concert is typically complemented by an introduction from Verdi scholars, illuminating the historical and musical context of the performed pieces.

A special appeal of this series lies in the venue: the Palazzo Ducale, today the seat of the Comando Provinciale Arma dei Carabinieri, opens its historic halls to the public. The elegant surroundings and the collaboration with the Carabinieri underscore the festival’s connection with the city and its institutions. Following the approximately one-hour concert, an aperitivo (included in the ticket price) is often offered, making the event a perfect social and cultural Sunday highlight.

As this is a concert series, the specific artists vary each Sunday.

  • Performers: Former artists of the Accademia Verdiana of the Teatro Regio di Parma, as well as other young talents.
  • Musical Accompaniment: Pianists from the Teatro Regio di Parma.
  • Scholarly Introduction: Often provided by renowned Verdi scholars.
  • In Collaboration with: Comando Provinciale Arma dei Carabinieri.

The Accademia Verdiana is a prestigious institution that specifically trains young singers in the Verdi repertoire. The concerts are therefore a guarantee of vocal quality and a deep-rooted knowledge of the Verdi tradition.
