About the Concert
Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana premiered in Frankfurt in 1937 and has since become one of the most frequently performed choral works worldwide. Based on medieval poems discovered in the Bavarian monastery of Benediktbeuern, the work celebrates life, fate, love, and indulgence. Its text, written in Latin, Old German, and French, reflects the raw human emotions and universal themes that continue to resonate with audiences.
The composition is structured in three main sections—Spring, In the Tavern, and The Court of Love—framed by the iconic O Fortuna. Orff’s innovative use of rhythm, percussion, and dynamic contrasts gives the piece a powerful, primal energy. Its theatrical and evocative character makes it an enduring favorite in both concert halls and open-air performances.
Carmina Burana is not just a concert; it’s a sensory experience that captivates audiences with its blend of ancient texts and modern musical language. Its timeless appeal and dramatic presentation ensure its place as a cornerstone of choral repertoire.
