She fell unhappily in love with the deceitful nobleman Albrecht. When the betrayal comes to light, the tender Giselle breaks the heart and she dies of pain. The spirits of the unhappily in love and betrayed virgins, the Wilis, take revenge on the men in the night. Myrtha, the Queen of the Wilis, also calls Giselle to take revenge on Albrecht. Giselle still loves Albrecht and saves him from the Wilis in a dramatic atmosphere. The inspiration for the ballet comes from a poem by Victor Hugo and from the Wilis in De l'Allemagne by Heinrich Heine. The music was composed by the opera and ballet composer Adolphe Adam.
