The historic Teatro La Fenice opens its spectacular 2026/2027 season with Umberto Giordano’s gripping Verismo masterpiece, “Fedora.” This high-profile opening night production features a distinguished creative team led by acclaimed maestro Donato Renzetti on the podium and the visionary Hugo de Ana, who serves as director, set designer, and costume designer.
Bringing this intense, passionate drama to life is the celebrated soprano Maria Agresta in the demanding title role of Princess Fedora Romazov. In keeping with the elegant Venetian tradition, a formal dress code (evening dress) is requested for the grand opening night on Friday, 13 November, promising an unforgettable evening of top-tier musical theater and operatic glamour.

Plot of Fedora
St. Petersburg, 1881. Princess Fedora Romazov is deeply in love with Count Vladimir, but on the eve of their wedding, he is brought in mortally wounded and dies. Suspecting the nihilist Count Loris Ipanov, Fedora swears vengeance. She tracks Loris to Paris, where she infiltrates his inner circle and extracts a confession. Before turning him over to the secret police, however, Loris reveals the shocking truth: he killed Vladimir because Vladimir was having an affair with Loris’s own wife. Realizing Loris acted out of honor, Fedora falls deeply in love with him. They find brief happiness in Switzerland, but Fedora’s earlier letters of accusation spark a tragic chain of events back in Russia, leading to the death of Loris’s brother and mother. Overcome with guilt and desperate to save her new lover from the truth, Fedora drinks poison and dies in a heartbroken Loris’s arms.
