When the “Twilight of the Gods” meets the actual sunset over the Tyrrhenian Sea, nature and music drama merge into a transcendent experience. On Friday, 31 July, the Ravello Festival presents a milestone operatic event on the Belvedere of Villa Rufolo: The Dresden Festival Orchestra (Dresdner Festspielorchester) and Concerto Köln, under the baton of legendary conductor Kent Nagano, perform the Prologue and Act I of Richard Wagner’s monumental masterpiece, Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods). Performed on period instruments to recreate the authentic, rich soundscapes of the 19th-century, this concert version promises an evening of gripping drama and raw orchestral power, framing the timeless tragedy of love, power, and betrayal against the golden hour of the Amalfi Coast.
