The Bregaglia valley (Bergell) connects Italy with the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Ice-blue glaciers and rugged granite cliffs rise around the idyllic valley with its romantic lakes and lush mountain pastures. From Chiavenna at an altitude of 330 m on the Italian side, the route quickly climbs to the Maloja Pass in Switzerland at an altitude of 1815 meters. What to Expect from Hiking in the Bregaglia Valley in the Alps

Our hike starts in Maloja. The Maloja Alpine Pass connects Chiavenna in Italy with St. Moritz in Switzerland. The Romans used the Maloja Pass as a trade route. In the center of Maloja is the parking lot and the tourist office. The route to Lac da Cavloc (Cavloccio lakes) is well signposted. The very pleasant hike stretches along wide meadows. After a short time you come to the Orlegna stream. The Order of Salecina is located there. The Lac da Cavloc is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes. There are small beaches between the rocks. A welcome place for rest and relaxation in nature. The Cavloccio restaurant is in a sunny location and is open in high season. The paths to the mountain peaks start from here. The Forno glacier takes about 3 hours uphill. At the top is the Rifugio Forno, the mountain hut with accommodation. We follow the course of the Orlegna stream a bit and take the panoramic path back via Motta Salacina with a beautiful view of the entire Bregaglia valley. You will pass the Bitabergsee, a small lake with emerald green water in beautiful nature. From Bitaberg you return to Maloja.
