The Puccini Festival takes place every summer in the beautiful Tuscan town of Viareggio near Lucca. Six years after his death, La Bohème was first performed on the natural stage of the lake of Torre del Lago. It is a unique ambiance on the renovated open-air stage, where the soft music of Giacomo Puccini's operas can be heard with the swaying sound of the waves of the enchanting lake. In 2008 the floating stage was opened for Puccini's 150th birthday. The maestro described Torre del Lago as his paradise with exceptionally beautiful sunsets. The maestro loved his homeland very much. He was born in Lucca and his villa became the mausoleum where his tomb is located.
