The musical comedy’s operatic music was written by Leonardo Vinci (not to be confused with the universal genius Leonardo da Vinci) and the libretto was written by Bernardo Saddumene. The first performance of The Betrothed on the Galley took place in Naples in 1722. The comedy takes place in Vietri sul Mare, a town on the spectacular Amalfi Coast not far from Sorrento. The opera is about the confusion of love, infidelity and disguises, until the two lovers finally find each other again. The comic opera or musical comedy in Naples and is sung in the Neapolitan dialect. This is difficult to understand even for many Italians, but it sounds good.
