“Madina” returns to La Scala in Milan after its success at the world premiere. This project is unique in both its approach and themes and rarely found in ballet.
The work combines dance and theater and brings together words, song, music and body. It creates a synthesis of traditional and contemporary forms of musical theater that dissolve the boundaries between the different forms of expression.
“Madina” is a powerful piece that takes up current issues and conveys universal messages.
It invites the audience to reflect on the impact of violence, the value of life and the choices we make.
With its unique combination of dance, music and theatre, “Madina” promises to be an immersive and moving experience that will captivate viewers.
The Story
Madina is a young Chechen who wears a belt filled with explosives. A woman who has suffered violence and fanatic suicide bomber are the ingredients of a thriller to unfold in front of your eyes. This theme is rarely tackled in ballet.
The ballet “Madina” is based on true events and tells the story of a young girl named Madina who grows up in a war-ravaged country and loses her parents. Urged by her family to carry out a suicide bombing in a western town, Madina makes a last-minute decision not to die or kill. This puts her in court.
“Madina” is a story about ancestral impulses, symbolic places and the perverted dynamics of self-destructive violence. It shows the struggle between good and evil playing off against each other but also merging with each other.
