Le Corsaire • Teatro alla Scala

Ballet Le Corsaire • from 28 February to 17 March 2023 at La Scala Milan

La Scala in Milan is performing Le Corsaire, choreographed by Manuel Legris, a 19th-century classic and one of the most exciting and adventurous ballets of the period. The ballet in 3 acts with prologue and epilogue was based on a poem by George Gordon Byron The Corsair. The story takes place on the coast of Greece and begins in a slave market where women are sold. The pasha Seid has a harem for which he wants to buy the beautiful Médora, who, however, loves Conrad. After the confusion about purchase and robbery, liberation and imprisonment, love triumphs. Le Corsaire was the last ballet composition by the composer Adolphe Adam. The premiere took place in Paris in 1856.
