The ballet season at La Scala in Milan starts with the ballet The Nutcracker. It is also a homage to the great dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev, on the thirtieth anniversary of his death. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s fairytale ballet The Nutcracker premiered in Saint Petersburg in 1892. The popular ballet is a regular fixture at many theaters, especially around Christmas time. Nureyev had developed his own choreography for La Scala in Milan.
