Riccardo Muti was born in Naples on July 28, 1941 and studied pianist and singer. He completed his training as a conductor and composer at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan. In 1967 Muti took part in a conducting competition in Milan, which he won. This was the beginning of his international breakthrough. In 1971 Herbert von Karajan invited the young conductor to the Salzburg Festival. Muti has now conducted the most important orchestras in the world and is considered an exceptional musician who is also socially committed. Until 2005 he was music director at La Scala in Milan. Since 2015 he has devoted himself intensively to training young musicians in addition to his work as a conductor.
