The opera Orfeo ed Euridice tells the story of the Greek singer Orpheus. Content is the myth about the Greek singer Orpheus. The action was moved from Thrace to Lake Averno in the Phlegraean Fields near Naples, which was considered by the ancient Romans to be the gateway to the underworld. When Orpheus mourns the loss of Eurydice at the grave, the god of love Amor appears. The Greek gods allow Orpheus to descend into the underworld to appease the Furies with his song. After his successful adventures, everyone returns alive and celebrates Cupid.
