Doctor Faust from February 7 to 21, 2023
The opera Doctor Faust was composed by the Italian pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni. Busoni died before it was completed, and the opera was later completed by his pupil Philipp Jarnach. Busoni chose several sources for the libretto, besides the famous character from Goethe’s Faust as well as the drama The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe and puppetry of the German tradition. The premiere took place posthumously in 1925 in the Semperoper Dresden. The opera consists of two preludes, an interlude and three main scenes. The action takes place in Wittenberg and Parma.
