Richard Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman will be performed from June 22 to July 4, 2023 at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice. Richard Wagner composed the opera “Der fliegende Holländer” based on inspiration from a Heinrich Heine legend and his own experiences with stormy passages on ships. The action takes place after the legend of the Flying Dutchman, the Dutch captain Bernard Fokke. The central motif of the opera is the longing for the eternal faithfulness of a beloved woman.
